I was first introduced to the sounds of New Orleans jazz musicians,
John Boutte and
Paul Sanchez, through my friend,
Tony Fitzpatrick, a pivotal contemporary Chicago artist. He is in love with them. A mutual friend, Colman DeKay, invited to me to the show he helped put together in Los Angeles at The Joint on Friday. Colman, also a huge fan, is responsible for co-writing many of the duo's most brilliant songs (Boutte declared, I kid you not, a"Colman DeKay" section of the evening that night) and Colman also houses them when they're in town. That evening the duo also played with
Gary Stockdale, Hollywood film composer. What a great night! Here are some "no flash" images I took for them:
